Good news for Beaver fans. Matt Moore was claimed off of waivers by the Carolina Panthers. By being claimed off of waivers, Moore has to be added to the Panthers' 53-man roster. That means Moore is now the third string quarterback in Carolina.
In Seattle, Jonas Newton has been signed to the practice squad. That is good news for Joe for two reasons. First, Marcus Pollard, the big name free agent tight end brought in by Seattle to fill a need at TE is old, and he won't be around Seattle for much more than a year or two, which means Joe could have a chance to make a real impact on the Hawks relatively quickly. Second, Newton only needs to look as far as his former teammate, Mike Hass, in order to learn that making a team's practice squad gives you the inside edge at making the active roster the next year.
Keith Ellison was hurt in the second quarter of Buffalo's last pre-season game and has been diagnosed with what is called a "high ankle sprain". Buffalo's head coach Dick Jauron calls Ellison's injury "not good for us". Buffalo is officially describing Ellison's status as "out indefinitely".
I will post more information on Beavers in the NFL as the information becomes available.
